Lake Winnie Fishing Report: 2-15-2024

The ice is holding up on Lake Winnie and on lakes in the surrounding area, but you do have to be cautious of cracks on the larger lakes.

We are finding fourteen to fifteen inches of ice on most lakes.

Make sure to check as you go and call the resorts ahead of time. Please avoid and current areas and any areas near running water. With all the rain we got this past week the ice in those spots is really weak.

Lake Winnie Fishing Report: Walleyes

Lake Winnie fishing report

The walleye bite has slowed down a bit, but fish are still being caught during the primetime hours early in the morning and late in the evening. A couple are also being caught after dark.

Set lines paired with fathead minnows, shiners, or small suckers have been best.

A few fish can also be caught on jigging spoons. Wonderbread, perch, and any glow colors have been best.

Walleyes can be caught along the shoreline break and points in eight to twelve feet of water or on main lake humps in twenty to twenty-seven feet of water.

Lake Winnie Fishing Report: Perch

The perch fishing has been slow, but consistent. Jumbo perch can be found in small pods. Most groups had four to six fish in them.

Target the main lake structure in depths between twenty-five and thirty feet for water.

Once you find the pods it does not take much convincing for them to bite, but you do have to stay on the move in order to find numbers of fish.

Eelpout

The Lake Winnie fishing report on eelpout has been getting better. A few eelpout can be caught at sunset and throughout the night.

Target the sharp edges near deep water. Focus on depths between twenty and thirty feet of water.

Heavy glow spoons tipped with a number of minnows has been best.

Panfish

The panfish bite has been excellent on most of the lakes in the area. Crappies and bluegills can be caught on small spoons and jigs tipped with wax worms.

Focus on flats and on the edges of basins in sixteen to eighteen feet of water.

Some fish can already be found in their spring spots.

Northern Pike

There are a lot of small northern pike on Lake Winnie roaming across the tops of the main lake humps.

Anglers can expect to catch a number of them when targeting walleyes and jumbo perch.

Anglers can target these smaller pike with tip-ups and minnows. On other lakes in the area focus on main lake weed beds between five and fifteen feet of water.
