Saskatchewan Fishing Report: 2-2-24

Tim Geni gives his latest Saskatchewan fishing report on February 2nd, 2024.

Saskatchewan Fishing Report: 2-2-24

Throughout the middle of January we had a deep freeze across Saskatchewan and we ended up gaining a lot of ice.

Most lakes in Southern Saskatchewan have anywhere between twenty to twenty-four inches of ice. Further up north some lakes have as much as three feet of ice.

After the deep freeze the temperature really warmed up and the fishing has been great.

We’ve continued to send a lot of our time on the Qu’Appelle chain in Southern Saskatchewan.

The Qu’Appelle lakes and they consist of four lakes Katepwa ,Mission , Echo and Pasqua.

Most anglers are now heading out in trucks. Please be extremely careful and do not cross any heaves or dangerous areas.

You still need to check ice as you go, because it is constantly changing.

Walleyes

Overall the bite has been really good and we are still finding numbers of big fish.

Anglers can expect to catch lots of walleyes throughout the day with the best bite happening during the primetime hours.

Walleyes seem to be biting most presentations right now. Rattlebaits and spoons tipped with minnow heads have been the best, but you can catch fish on most lures.

Perch, glow purple, glow blue/white, and wonderbread have been the best colors.

Target main lake points and reefs. Fish are being caught anywhere from twelve to twenty-five feet of water.

Focus on deeper depths during the day and move shallower during those low-light periods early in the morning and late in the evening.

Saskatchewan Fishing Report: Mixed Bag

Anglers can expect to catch a variety of other fish on the same spots as the walleyes. Perch, ciscos, and northern pike are consistently being caught in the same areas.

Target pike with set lines or by jigging larger baits.

Some pike can also be found in the shallow weed beds. As we get later into the ice season those really big pike will begin to push shallow.

Perch and ciscos can be caught on small spoons or small jigs tipped with some bait.
