We’ve got decent ice conditions in the Duluth area. Small shallow lakes are locked up and have anywhere from three to seven inches of ice.

Larger lakes have much less ice and there are a few with some open water spots.

The harbor of the St. Louis river is still open and it will still be awhile before we are able to get out there and chase walleyes.

Some of the shallow bays on the St. Louis river have good ice and anglers are catching lots of crappies, bluegills, and perch.

Small spoons and tungsten jigs like the Northland Fishing Tackle Mud Bug and Gill-Getter have been working great.

The new super glow colors have really been the ticket with the stained water.

Walleyes, northern pike and panfish are being caught on the inland lakes around the Duluth area and across the border in Northern Wisconsin.

Tip-ups paired with minnows set along the weed line has worked great for walleyes. The best bite has been in the late afternoon, but a few fish can still be caught in the morning and throughout the day.

Northern pike are biting throughout the day along the weed lines.

Look for bluegills in the weeds and crappies in mid-depth basins. The crappies have been coming in suspended a couple feet off the bottom.

The best crappie bite in the basin has been in the afternoon and into the evening, but plenty of fish are still be caught throughout the day.

Small jigs and spoons tipped with wax worms have been working.

Some anglers are casting for salmon and trout along the North shore of Lake Superior. Spoons and other heavy baits have triggered a few bites.
