Minnesota guide Matt Johnson of Matt Johnson Outdoors gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for the Twin Cities area on September 20th, 2023.
Twin Cities: 9-20-2023
Water temps are starting to drop into the sixties and everything is biting right now.
Largemouth bass were really on the chew. Most fish were caught between that four to eight foot depth range.
We caught fish on chatterbaits, swim jigs, spinnerbaits, and other moving baits. As the water temps continue to drop we can expect to find more bass up shallow.
You can also catch fish on finesse baits like ned rigs, Neko rigs, and jig worms, but it really seemed like the moving baits worked better.
Anglers can also expect to catch northern pike and other species mixed in with the bass.
Bluegills and crappies can be found in the shallow basins anywhere from ten to twenty feet of water. A few fish can also be caught along the deep weed lines. Small Jigging Raps and jigs paired with plastics will catch plenty of panfish.
As we continue into late summer / early fall these same bites should continue to only get better. Good luck to all anglers fishing the Twin Cities area this week and over the weekend!
