Minnesota guide Matt Johnson of Matt Johnson Outdoors gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for the Twin Cities area on October 2nd, 2023.
Twin Cities: 10-2-2023
We’ve had unseasonably warm weather this past week and the water temps are still in the mid-sixties. Overall the fishing has been great and most species are beginning to move to their fall locations.
Walleyes can be found on shallow in eight to twelve feet of water. Swimbaits, Lindy rigs, and Tikka Mino’s has been working great for walleyes.
Northern pike can be found almost anywhere. We’ve caught a majority of our pike in less than fifteen feet of water. Look for schools of baitfish and green weed beds. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swimbaits, and jerkbaits are all working. Expect to run into plenty of pike when targeting other species as well.
Largemouth bass can be caught in three to ten feet of water. Wacky rigs worked great this week, but anglers can also catch bass on chatterbaits, ned rigs, and spinnerbaits.
Bluegills and crappies can be found in the shallow basins anywhere from ten to twenty feet of water. A few fish can also be caught along the deep weed lines. The fish are really starting to school up so if you Small Tikka Mino’s and jigs paired with plastics will catch plenty of panfish.
As the water temps continue to drop the fall bite is only going to get better. Good luck to all anglers fishing the Twin Cities area this week and over the weekend!
