Metro Area Report: 3-7-2023

We’ve still got great ice in the Twin cities area with most lakes having eighteen to twenty inches of ice. I would be cautious with vehicle traffic because there is a decent amount of snow on top of the ice. Track machines or snowmobiles should be the preferred method to get around.

The fish have finally made their transition into their late ice areas. We having been finding lots of bluegills, crappies and perch in shallow flats and shallow weed beds.

The bite has been good and most of our fish were caught between four and seven feet of water.

A #8 Dropkick jig paired with a chartreuse Polli XL was our best presentation by way, but we also caught some fish on the 1/32 ounce Clam Pinhead Pro spoon.

We’ve still got a lot of ice fishing ahead of us. If the weather continues to stay cool we will probably be ice fishing into April. Get out and enjoy it!

Stay safe and good luck to all the anglers fishing in the Metro Area lakes!
