St Louis River Fishing Report: 10-30-24

Fishing is just about to wrap up on the St. Louis River. It’s been extremely windy and overall the bite has been tough, but a few fish can still be caught. Water levels are extremely low right now. We probably only have a week or two left of the open water season.

St Louis River Fishing Report: Walleye

The walleye bite has been hit and miss. The mornings have been better than evenings, but we really need some rain to get the river water level up. A few walleyes can be caught on jigs paired with plastics or minnows. Live bait rigs are also working. Anglers can expect to run into a few northern pike mixed in with the walleyes as well.

Lake Superior

The bite on Lake Superior has slowed down. Some anglers are catching a few smallmouth bass and trout out on Chequamegon Bay. Trolling stickbaits has been the best way to catch trout. The tributaries on the South shore of Lake Superior are producing some steelhead, brown trout, and salmon but the water is low and clear.

Inland Lakes

The inland lakes are your best shot for smallmouth bass and panfish. Look for panfish in mid-depth basins. Look for bass in the shallows. Weed beds and areas that had docks are holding fish. They can be caught on small plastics as well as small Northland Puppet Minnows. As the water temperatures drop anglers can expect the fish to transitions towards their first ice areas.

Hopefully things begin to get colder around the Duluth area and we’ll have some first ice around the end of November.
