Leech Lake Fishing Report: 7-29-24
The water has stained up and the fishing has improved over the last week out on Leech Lake. Walleyes and bass have been fishing very well and should only improve as we transition into August.
Leech Lake Fishing Report: Walleye

Water temps are in the low eighties and overall the walleye fishing has picked up. The warmer temps have brought heavy algae blooms and plankton and that has stained the water a bit. Anglers are finding some nice walleyes with a lot of fish being caught between twenty and twenty-six inches. Look for walleyes in fourteen to twenty-two feet of water on sand flats, main lake humps, and other underwater structure like points. The best bite has been early in the morning and late in the evening during primetime hours, however some fish can be caught during the day if it’s windy and overcast. Some walleyes can also be found slightly deeper in Walker Bay in depths between twenty and thirty feet of water.
Anglers can catch walleyes a number of different ways. In the evening Rapala Shad Raps have been very effect. You can either troll them or cast them. Slip bobbers have worked well for fish during the day. Both leeches and nightcrawlers are working. Some anglers are having success on Jigging Raps on the windier days.

Leech Lake Fishing Report: Bass
The smallmouth bass fishing has been fairly good on the same humps walleyes are being caught just look a bit shallower. Ned rigs have been catching numbers of smallies. The best colors have been rusty orange, charcoal, and chartreuse colors. Work the baits slow along the bottom. Some topwater action can be had in the evening on calmer days. Poppers and prop baits have been best in less than eight feet of water.
With the warmer water temperatures the largemouth bass have been more active and some nice fish are being caught. Most anglers are punching weed beds with heavy Texas rigs setups. Look for the bass in reeds and rice. Fish are starting to hit frogs in the thick stuff as well. Boy Bay has been fishing very well for largemouth bass.
