Alexandria Minnesota Fishing Report

Summer fishing has remained great as the walleye have been patterning well on area lakes. A variety of other species have been fishing very well too and anglers can expect to get some bites no matter what they are chasing in the Alexandria area.

Fishing has remained good. We are catching lots of eaters with a lot of big fish mixed in as well. A majority of the walleyes can be found in twenty to twenty-two feet of water. Look for fish near the structure like points, sharp breaks, and humps out in the main lake. Fishing right near the tops of this structure has been key.

As far as baits go almost everything has been working to catch fish. Live bait rigs and crawler harness are catching walleyes in the middle of the day on the edges of structure. Remember to keep it slow going about 0.7-1.3 mph. Jigs have been great option for when fish are holding tighter to structure on overcast and windier days. Brown, blue, and pink are some good color options. Tip the jigs with a nightcrawler or leech. Slip bobbers have worked well when the fish are in a lethargic mood.

The trolling bite hasn’t started quite yet, but it will in the next week of so. Anglers can anticipate a good walleye bite trolling deeper divers in a perch, shad or pink color.

Alexandria Minnesota Fishing Report: Bass

Bass fishing has been great these past weeks with the hot weather. It looks like it should only continue to get better. Fish are in their mid-summer patterns and are sitting in deeper weed beds. Fish weeds from ten to eighteen feet of water. Carolina rigs, heavy jigs, drop shots, and ned rigs have all been working well. Anglers are also having some success pitching docks. Look for docks that are in the deepest water and are heavily covered.

Alexandria Minnesota Fishing Report: Panfish

Sunfish are up shallow and off of their beds. The bluegills have been biting well. Looking for reeds and weeds in five to eight feet of water. Hair jigs, plastics, nightcrawlers or leeches are working great for bluegills. Crappies can be found along the weed edge in ten to twelve feet of water. Most of the fish are sitting about halfway down in the water column. Slip bobbers with crappie minnows has been really effective, but angles are also catching a lot of crappies pitching jigs and plastics.
