Jake Wallace gives his latest Lake Winnie Fishing Report on January 25th, 2024.

Lake Winnie Fishing Report: 1-25-2024

Overall the ice conditions were pretty good up on Lake Winnibigoshish. Most areas had any where from fourteen to as much as seventeen inches of ice.

Areas like the Third River, near the Mississippi River and near Cut Foot Sioux Lake had less ice so please use caution near those places.

There are few miles of plowed roads systems out of High Banks Resort, and it sounded like the resorts on the South end of Lake Winnie we’re going to start allowing trucks out, but please call the resort ahead of time.

Ice conditions can change in a hurry so practice ice safety and use common sense.

Perch

The perch fishing has been slow, but consistent. Jumbo perch can be found in small pods. Most groups had four to six fish in them.

Target the main lake structure in depths between twenty and twenty-six feet for water.

Once you find the pods it does not take much convincing for them to bite.

Our best bait was a 1/8-ounce Northland Fishing Tackle Buckshot Coffin Spoon in the super glow blue or in the color sneeze.

A few fish were also caught on small jigs paired with minnow heads and on set lines paired with fathead minnows.

Stay on the move. It seemed like if there were big perch in an area they showed up within the first twenty minutes or so.

Walleye

The Lake Winnie fishing report for walleyes has been good. Anglers can expect to catch numbers of good sized eater walleyes.

The best bite is still during those low-light periods early in the morning and late in the evening, but plenty of fish are being caught throughout the day and overnight.

Walleyes can be caught along the shoreline break in eight to twelve feet of water. They can also be caught on the edge of mid-lake structure in depths between twenty and twenty-seven feet of water.

Spoons tipped with minnow heads have been the ticket. Glow wonderbread, perch, and orange have been the best colors.

Northern Pike

There are a lot of small northern pike roaming across the tops of the main lake humps. Anglers can expect to catch a number of them when targeting walleyes and jumbo perch.

Anglers can target these smaller pike with tip-ups and minnows. Most of the fish we ran into were a great pickling size.

Eelpout

The Lake Winnie fishing report on eelpout has been decent. A few eelpout can be caught at sunset and throughout the night.

Target the sharp edges near deep water. Focus on depths between twenty and thirty feet of water.

Heavy glow spoons tipped with a number of minnows is the way to go.
