This weeks Leech lake buzz bite report comes from Chuck Hasse with Leisure Outdoor Adventures.
We continue to have water temperatures in the high seventies out here on Leech lake.
The walleyes have been spread out but you can find them on main lake points like Stony Point and on the mid lake reefs. You will have to stay on the move and cover ground in order to find the fish willing to bite. The bite hasn’t been great, but if you put some time in you will get a few.
Right now there is a lot of bait in the water on Leech lake. The mayflys are still hatching and we have crayfish molting and a lot of those young of the year perch minnows are just starting to get big enough now to where the fish are starting to feed on them.
Because of this, a lot of walleyes, smallmouth bass, pike and perch are full; so we have been using a lot of reactionary baits to trigger those bites.
Baits like the Rapala Jigging Rap and the Rapala Rippin Rap are great reactionary baits to use. They get those fish fired up and cause reactionary bites when they’re not necessarily in the mood to feed.
Spinners and crankbaits have also been working well on Leech Lake. The best colors have been anything orange, purple, perch colored or red. Anything that resembles a crayfish or perch has been the best.
If you are going to pull spinners, don’t be afraid to fish them fast. Anywhere from 1.0 to 2.0 mph.
If you guys are looking to book a trip, you can do so through our website, Leisure Outdoor Adventures.
