Duluth Area Buzz Bite Report 3-9-2021

by

Duluth areaWell with the gamefish season closed here in Minnesota and also in Wisconsin so we have been targeting panfish in the Duluth area on the St. Louis river in the back bays.

It is warm out here in the Duluth area and it has been super nice being able to fish outside without a shelter. We have been using snowmobiles to get around, but with all the snow melted we will be switching over to 4wheelers and foot traffic.

Overall the bite has been pretty solid and we are getting a lot of nice shallow roaming bluegills and crappies. Most of our fish are coming in about 15-17 feet of water located near deep water. These fish are really starting to feed on the different types of bugs and larvae that are starting to emerge from the mud.

Some of our key baits have been small tungsten jigs with euro larvae or wax worms. Plastics will work too especially if you can find one that really has a buggy profile.

Lake Superior ice-free for the most part and is producing some coho salmon and a few trout along the north shore and on the south shore. Most anglers have been casting from shore but some have been venturing out in their boats with a few of the launches opening up.

I would say at this rate with the weather we may be out in the boat within the next three to four weeks so that is exciting. With the seasons being closed you will want to make sure you pick up a new fishing license for yourself and for your boat if you need one.

For those anglers venturing out on late ice be careful with the changing ice conditions. Good luck and be safe!
