Mack Jenz with a nicly marked musky

Central Wisconsin Fishing Report – Phil Schweik

by

It has been another busy week here in Central Wisconsin with lots of rain again and very high water. We are actually in a “Flood stage” on the Wisconsin River. The water temperatures will just not come up either and as of Friday June 23 rd the temperatures on the Wisconsin River remain in the mid to upper 60 degree range.

The action for most species has been relatively good with walleyes and crappies topping out the list. The musky bite has been good but there have been very specific feeding windows that may only last ½ hour or less and you had better be on the water during that window or you may not get anything that day at all.

Most of our action is coming during low light periods early in the day or right before dark. We have seen some mid-day activity but it has been spotty and inconsistent. The funny thing is that the sunny days have been out-producing the cloudy days this past week. My theory is that the sunlight is warming up the water just enough to stimulate the fish into feeding as opposed to the dark dreary days.

Have a great week,
