Jigging Rap Tips For Open Water

Q: I’ve been using the Jigging Rap through the ice for years now
and would like to try it for open water walleye sometime this year.
Any tips? (ie. water temp, color, presentation)

A: from Al Lindner
Bar none, one of my favorite techniques for catching walleye from late spring
throughout the fall in depths from 15 to 30 feet of water.
I’m typically targeting sunken islands and the perimeter of main lake points.
The retrieve is critical.  Short casts, let it sink to the bottom.
Snap the bait off the bottom with four foot rod sweeps, then let it fall
on a slack line back to the bottom.
Repeat the process.

It’s a fantastic way to trigger reactionary strikes from deep water walleye.
