Kayak Fishing for Largemouth Bass

Pat Zara, owner of Paddle Anglers, recently shared a buzz report on his experience kayak fishing for largemouth bass in Brainerd, Minnesota. He shared two techniques he was using to catch the fish: a weightless Texas rig style and a whacky style.

Weightless Texas Rig Style

The weightless Texas rig style is a technique used to catch largemouth bass in thick cover. As Pat explains, “I’m jigging it lightly and letting it sink. I’m watching that line and keeping it tight.”

Whacky Style

The whacky style is another technique used to catch largemouth bass. Pat explains, “I’m using this on the edge of the thick cover. It’s not weightless. I’m using this between weight lines. Jigging that and what this is doing is every time I push on it it’s moving a ton of water.”

To ensure the worm does not tear, Pat uses zip ties instead of hooking it directly into the worm. This helps him get more usage out of the worms.

Conclusion

Pat was able to catch several largemouth bass using the weightless Texas rig style and the whacky style. He was fishing on a local lake in Baxter, Minnesota and was able to cast multiple times without any tears in the worm.

Kayak fishing is a great way to experience the outdoors and catch some fish. Pat’s experience is a great example of the techniques and strategies used to catch largemouth bass.
