Introduction

Welcome back to AnglingBuzz! In this article, we will be discussing the latest reports and techniques for walleye fishing. We have gathered information from various experts in different regions, including Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. So, whether you’re a seasoned angler or just starting out, we’ve got you covered with the best tips and tricks to help you catch more walleye.

Michigan Walleye and Smallmouth Bass Report

Let’s start with Captain Ron Dome Jr. in Michigan, who provides us with an update on the walleye and smallmouth bass fishing in the area. According to Captain Ron, the smallmouth bass are transitioning to deeper waters, around 15 to 20 feet and even deeper. These fish are following baitfish and can be found in Saginaw Bay. For a successful walleye fishing trip, trolling with high lines at slow speeds using crawler harnesses or slow crankbaits is recommended. Moving up north to ports like Traverse City, you can also target trout, salmon, and steelhead on Lake Michigan and its tributary rivers.

Northern Wisconsin Walleye and Smallmouth Bass Report

Next, we have Jeff Evans from northern Wisconsin, who gives us an update on the walleye and smallmouth bass fishing in the area. With the recent heat wave, water temperatures have risen to the mid to high 70s in some lakes. Despite the warm temperatures, the walleye bite is still strong on the St. Louis River, the south shore of Lake Superior, and the Hayward Lakes area. As for smallmouth bass, they have moved to shallow water areas where they were spawning and are now staging up in 10 to 20 feet of water off rocky points, ledges, and shorelines. Jeff recommends a three-system approach for catching smallmouth bass, including using regular whacky worms to cover the top of the water column, swimming a grub on a jig through the middle of the water column, and dragging a Ned rig along the bottom.

Minnesota Walleye and Multi-Species Report

Moving on to Minnesota, Josie Guerra provides us with an update on the walleye fishing in the Alexandria region. Josie mentions that walleyes can be caught using a variety of techniques, including spinner and crawler rigs. The key is to find the concentration of fish, which has been around 18 to 20 feet of water. However, Josie also encourages anglers to be open-minded and target other species like bass, sunfish, and crappie. Some days the walleyes may not be as active, but there are still plenty of other fish to catch and enjoy.

Cool Products and Technique of the Week

Now, let’s take a look at some cool products that can enhance your walleye fishing experience. Fleet Farm offers a range of lures, including the Rapala Scatter Rap series, the RipStop, and the Deep Husky Jerk. These lures have unique designs and actions that can attract walleye. Additionally, Fleet Farm offers the Offshore Tackle Pro Weight System, which helps organize weights and snaps for trolling. For line options, Suffix 832 Advanced Leadcore is recommended, as it provides good depth control. Dial Wood’s AccuDepth Plus line counter reel is also mentioned as an important tool for trolling. St. Croix’s Icon Series trolling rod and Northland Tackle’s Weed Weasel and Pro Walleye Float and Crawler Harness are highlighted as well.

In addition to the cool products, the article also features the Technique of the Week. It emphasizes the importance of using the right tools for specific fishing techniques. For rigging live bait, a seven-foot medium-light power rod is recommended. Jig fishing requires a six-foot-eight-inch medium extra-fast action rod. Crankbait fishing calls for a medium power moderate action rod, while pulling spinner rigs requires a seven-foot medium-heavy power rod with a moderate action. Having the right rod for each technique ensures better hook sets and overall success.
