Lake Sakakawea (ND) Fishing Report – Matt Liebel

by

Lake Sakakawea continues its spectacular year with the bite now strong on most of the lake.

The best numbers bite is out west in the New Town area but limits of walleyes are being caught from White Earth to the Embankment on the east end. The extreme west end has been a little slower due to muddy water from the mountain runoff.

The lake is predicted to remain relatively stable for the next few weeks so the stellar bite should continue! The size of the fish and tournament weights have been way up compared to past year, we encourage you to practice selective harvest and let the big girls go! There are plenty of perfect eater sized (16-20″) fish, and you can catch fish almost any way you want.

Our best methods have been trolling Berkley Flicker Minnows and Flicker Shads. On days where the crank bite is slow Mack’s smile blades with a Berkley fusion 19 slow turn hook and a half crawler will put fish in the boat! Depths really vary depending on locations and wind, but 10-16 feet is a good starting point. Windy days look shallower and calm days look deeper. There are so many fish in the lake use your electronics to tell you what depth you should be in!

We have openings available for many days in July! Give us a call @ 701-770-6746 to book your Lake Sakakawea fishing adventure.
