Chase Gaiche with a nice walleye

Central Wisconsin Fishing Report – Phil Schweik

by

This past week central Wisconsin was pounded with wet heavy snow, and with that said travel conditions on area lakes has become extremely tough. Blowing and drifting snow has caused hard packed drifts on the lakes creating havoc for anglers. With our last reading showing 8 to 10 inches of ice in many areas we are advising foot travel or snowmobile access only. The nice thing about this past dumping of snow is that the snowmobile trails opened in central Wisconsin!

Despite the conditions on the area lakes fishing has remained very good. We saw good numbers of panfish and walleyes this past week along with some nice northern pike. For most of our fishing we have been targeting deep water break lines during the daylight hours and as evening approaches we have been moving shallower for the walleyes. The northern pike fishing has been consistent with us targeting depths less than 10 feet deep.

Not a too often topic on my reports but a few guys have been getting out and targeting coyotes at night and they have been having some success. This past week with the moonlight nights made for easy pickings as the coyotes came into the distress calls.
