Over the last number of years there has been a really dramatic change in bass fishing. There has been a real push towards finesse fishing and leading that change has been the Ned rig.

The ned rig is a simple but deadly presentation. It is a lightweight mushroom style jig head usually in 1/8th or 1/4th ounce, paired with small stickbait.

When you really look at the technique it seems so extraordinarily simplistic. A very lightweight mushroom head jig and it’s really small unobtrusive stick worm, but it’s an amazing tool for catching bass and multi-species.

There are some really key reasons why this bait is so effective. Number one, that lightweight head allows for a slow drop speed.

Number two, the stick worm. It is really sort of unobtrusive. It just sits in the bottom and it doesn’t look like much, but when you take it and you pull this bait along the bottom it actually rolls the tail up giving off a great action.

It is a bait that is really appealing to a lot of different species of fish no question. Bass, walleye, northern pike, and panfish will all eat a ned rig. It is also a great bait to tech new anglers how to finesse fish, because of how easy it is too fish.

Another great thing about the ned rig is that it can be fished anywhere and at any depth. Deep weeds, shallow rocks, sand flats. Other than super thick weed mats, it can be used a just about every structure you find fish.

The ned rig is a bait you will want in your tackle box going forward.
