Northern Wisconsin Buzz Bite Report 8-17-2022

We’ve had a super good bite over the past few weeks up here in Northern Wisconsin.

Anglers are catching some really nice walleyes trolling along the south shore of Lake Superior. Deep diving crankbaits have been the best baits.

Target depths between 30 to 35 feet of water and look for water temps between 65 and 70 degrees. That’s where most anglers have had the most success.

In the Hayward Lakes area, water temps are around 75 degrees on most lakes.

Smallmouth bass can be caught on deep rocky structure in 15 to 20 feet of water. Drop shots with finesse worms or small tube jigs have been the best baits for those fish. Ned rigs will work as well.

On some of our stained lakes we’ve got a really good topwater bite in less than five feet of water. Bright sunny days seem to be the best.

The crappies have begun to move out into the mud basins and can be caught in 20 to 25 feet of water. Slip bobbers with small jigs, jigging spoons, and small Rapala Jigging Raps will catch numbers of fish.

Good luck to all the anglers fishing in Northern Wisconsin or on Lake Superior!
