Northern Minnesota Buzz Bite Report 5-20-2022

The fishing is excellent across most of Northern Minnesota. Winnie, Cass, Leech all have good walleye bites happening right now.

Most anglers are having a lot of success with walleyes on Winnie, Cass and Leech in less than 15 feet of water. A jig paired with a minnow is hard to beat right now, but some anglers are also catching them on jigs & plastics, crankbaits, and slip bobbers with leeches.

Look for these walleyes on shallow flats or near any inflows or outflows on the lakes. Main lake wind blown points are also holding a good number of fish.

The panfish fishing has been great as well. Crappies and bluegills can be caught in the back of shallow bays on small jigs under a float.

One jig that has really been working for me is the Northland Gypsi jig. Pink and white has been the best two colors.

Largemouth bass have moved into the shallows and can be caught in the same places you are catching crappies and bluegills. Small swimbaits or shallow running squarebill crankbaits have been catching fish. You can also catch them on ned rigs.

Good luck to all the anglers fishing this weekend and next week. Be safe and have fun!
