Looking for a Leech Lake summer walleye and musky report? You’ve come to the right place!

Local guide Toby Kvalevog has been keeping tabs on both species of fish the past week and he’s here to share a quick report on the bite, with an emphasis on the walleye action.

Here’s how he’s been putting fish in the boat:

“What’s going on, everyone. It’s Toby Kvalevog here with Leisure Outdoor Adventures. I’m with some clients, Brian and Darren, and we’re heading out for a day of fishing on Leech Lake. We’ve been out here fishing Leech pretty hard the last few days and here’s the report.

“The walleyes have been biting and artificial lures have been the best. Crankbaits and Jigging Raps have been working well. Livebait still works, too. And we’ve been doing a lot of musky fishing.

“Water temperatures are in that mid-to-upper 70’s range. The walleyes have been biting in the morning, but they’re not all biting because there’s a lot of food in the lake. Anything you can fish fast such as crankbaits and Jigging Raps and even livebait like a bobber and leech combination or the classic Lindy Rig will work, too. Use artificial stuff and fish fast – plastics, Jigging Raps and crankbaits for the best results.

“The muskies are biting, too. These guys put three in the boat yesterday. It’s awesome and we’ve been having a lot of fun up here on Leech Lake. The bite is good and the weather has been stable, so Leech Lake is on fire – that’s it!”

Sounds like the name of the game is speed and fishing aggressively to get bites from active walleye. That tends to be a common pattern across the Upper Midwest this time of year.

Thanks to Toby for giving us the latest Leech Lake summer walleye and musky report. Make sure to check back next week for another fresh, up-to-date report from beautiful Leech Lake in northern Minnesota. The fishing has been hot for a variety of species and it’s not slowing down anytime soon. This is primetime to get up to one of Minnesota’s most productive multi-species lakes!
