Lake Vermilion Buzz Bite Report 7-25-2022

The bug hatches have wrapped up on Lake Vermilion and anglers can expect to catch walleyes a number of different ways, but the key has been some type of reactionary bait.

Number 7 and number 9 sized Rapala Jigging Raps in perch or purple colors are triggering a lot of fish. Snap jigging plastics and hair jigs is also working.

You really want to work your baits aggressively, triggering those reactionary strikes. You can also catch a few fish trolling crankbaits on lead core out in the basins.

Smallmouth bass can be caught on topwater baits early and late in the day.

During the middle of the day, tubes, ned rigs, small bass jigs and shallow running crankbaits have all been working.

Look for largemouth bass in the weed beds in the back of the bays. Spinner baits, jig worms, and other plastics will work.

For the most part the muskies are still out in the basin, but those fish have began to move up onto the main lake rock reefs and islands.

Good luck to all the anglers out fishing on Lake Vermilion!
