How To Make Catfish Wontons

by

Jeremy Smith shares his simple and easy recipe for catfish wontons. This is a great appetizer that’s easy to make and really is a crowd pleaser!

How To Make Catfish Wontons

Ingredients

  • 1 block of cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup of grilled corn
  • 1 serrano pepper
  • garlic
  • green onion
  • catfish fillets (will work with other fish as well)
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 package of wonton wraps
  • oil

To begin take the cream cheese out and let it warm up to room temperature. While that is warming up, finely mince about a 1/4 cup of green onion, half of a Serrano pepper (remove the seeds), and 1 medium sized clove of garlic.

In a medium sized mixing bowl place about 5 or 6 ounces of cream cheese, the diced green onions, Serrano pepper, garlic. Mix it together throughly. Then add the grilled corn and mix it.

Once that is done, set the bowl aside and prepare the catfish. Start by cutting up the catfish fillets into small inch long sized cubes. You don’t want to make the pieces too big, because if they are bigger than that, you will have a tough time closing the wonton.

Once you have the catfish fillets cubed, season them with cajun seasoning.

After that is complete it is time to assemble the catfish wontons.

Take a small spoon and scoop out some of the cream cheese mixture and place it in the middle of the wonton wrap. Then place a piece of catfish on top of the cream cheese mixture. Then dip your finger into a bowl of water and run it along the edge of the wonton wrap.

Then you can fold the wonton into the shape you would like.

While you are assembling your catfish wontons, you should have your oil in a pan heating up to atleast 375 degrees. You can use whatever oil you prefer; either peanut, canola, or vegetable.

Once you have your catfish wontons assembled, place into the hot oil and fry for a few minutes, until they are a nice golden brown.

I like to pair the catfish wontons with an avocado sauce that is very easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 avacodo
  • 3/4 cup of greek yogurt
  • half of a Serrano pepper
  • cilantro
  • 1 lime
  • salt & pepper

Combine all the ingredients in a food processor or blender and then let it chill in the fridge before serving!

Enjoy!
