Devils Lake (ND) Fishing Report – Pete Harsh

by

Wind and weather in the form of cooler than normal temps. dominated this week’s fishing. Inconsistent catches were reported by our fishing guides and anglers throughout the Devils Lake basin. When Mother nature cooperated, the bite was on and good limits were had.

One of our guided groups reported catching and releasing a ten pound walleye with a few larger walleye also reported being caught and CPR’ed. This week’s weather forecast looks much more promising than last week.

Good fall presentations have been the old reliable jig and minnow combination, jigging raps, jigging spoons and some contour trolling of crankbaits. Leadcore or longline trolling have produced some good catches of walleye.

The potential for trophy fall walleyes will increase as stable weather moves into the Devils Lake area.

Large numbers of waterfowl are in the area. The first flocks of snow geese have started coming down. Puddle ducks are everywhere and the northern divers have recently shown up also. Guiding this weekend, waterfowl continuously filled the skies. It was a sight to behold.

With the better weekly forecast, this upcoming week should be a great time to take advantage what Devils Lake has to offer in both fishing and hunting opportunities. Mitchell’s Guide Service has some openings for full and half day fully guided trips so just give us a call!
