Devils Lake (ND) Fishing Report – Pete Harsh

by

Weather has driven the bite this week which is typical for October. Favorable weather conditions have resulted in very good catches this week. However, rain, wind, falling temperatures and the subsequent cold front has had a chilling effect on the bite. Reducing both size and numbers of fish caught for those anglers who are willing to venture out in such conditions.

Vertical presentations have proven the most productive at this time. Jigging by far has been the go to for successful anglers tempting sluggish walleyes.

We at MGS are anxiously awaiting those October Indian Summer days that dominated the weather in October of 2015. Waterfowl are now filling the air here at devils Lake. One thing for certain, when these disruptive weather systems come through, waterfowl hunting is good and when the weather is too nice for waterfowl hunting, the fishing is very good.

Timing is everything in fall fishing. Some very good catches have been made by our clients this week, but unstable weather has dominated the bite for many anglers. Judging from our customer photos, it would be wise to dress warmly when you come up. Surface temps. are now ranging from 43 to 50 degrees.
