Devils Lake (ND) Fishing Report – Pete Harsh

by

The seasons are a changing. That might be the best way to describe this past weeks fishing here at Devils Lake, ND.. Summer peak patterns have faded and fall patterns for walleyes are now the norm. Stable weather brings a good bite to anglers taking advantage of what Devils Lake has to offer in the fall.

Walleyes are feeding more aggressively throughout our system. Walleyes that started out last May and June in the 15-20 inch range now average two inches longer and much heavier in weight. It will surprise you just how fat and healthy these walleyes have become. Cooler nighttime temps have lowered water temperatures to the optimum level for active, hungry walleyes.

Trolling crankbaits continues to be a reliable presentation on expansive flats. Walleyes are also being caught on sharp breaking structure with jigs, spoons and jigging raps and that pattern should hold until freeze up. We at MGS have openings for September and October. Now would be a great time to experience some of the finest fall walleye fishing found in the Midwest.
