Central Wisconsin Fishing Report – Phil Schweik

by

It has been a fantastic week here in central Wisconsin. Water temperatures are in the mid 70 degree range and the fishing has been phenomenal. Walleye action has topped the list with not only numbers of nice fish but some real dandies taken too. The crappie bite has been running a close second with bass, bluegills, pike and musky all following suit.

Most of the action has been during the early morning hours or late in the evening but we have had some mid-day activity. A lot of our fish are coming by working submerged wood and rocks in 12 to 16 feet of water. Slip bobbers baited up with 1/16 th and 1/8 th ounce jigs tipped with minnows or twister tails are working well as is jigging the same combination right on the bottom without bobbers.

The musky and pike are being caught on rapidly retrieved bucktails and top water baits. Burning them, as most people would call it is basically what we are doing to trigger strikes from aggressive fish. A lot of the muskies and pike are holding well within heavy weeds and cover so be prepared to go in and get them.

Bear baiting has started for the season so get ready for some upcoming photos form our bating stations for the 2017 bear hunting season.

Have a great week,
