Boats Have Come a Long Way, Baby!

That was then…this is now! Frankie Dusenka compares bass boat technology from 40 years ago with that of today’s modern, state-of-the-art fishing machines.

Boats Have Come a Long Way, Baby!

In this article, we’re going to take a trip down memory lane and explore how boats have evolved over the past 40 years. Today, I had the pleasure of joining Mr. Billy Linda as we reminisce about the good old days and compare a boat from 1975 to its modern counterpart. It’s truly remarkable to see how much things have changed in the world of boating.

A Blast from the Past

The boat I brought along for this retro filming session is from 1975, the same year we graduated from high school. Back then, this boat was considered the best of the best. It had a V-block on a pad V-hull, making it one of the fastest boats of its time. We could hit speeds of up to 55 miles per hour, which was quite impressive back in those days.

The Evolution of Boats

Fast forward 40 years, and we have the modern version of this boat. While it may look similar to its predecessor, there have been significant changes under the hood. The advancements in technology and materials have revolutionized the boating industry.

Gone are the days of wooden boats. Today, boats are made with composite materials and fiberglass, making them more durable and resistant to the elements. This means that the boat we have here today, made out of plywood, is a rare find. It’s a testament to the care and preservation it received over the years.

Not only have the materials changed, but the horsepower has also seen a significant increase. In the mid-70s, a boat like this could reach speeds of 55 miles per hour. But now, with more powerful engines and advanced propulsion systems, boats can easily surpass that speed. It’s safe to say that the boat of the future, made entirely of composite materials, will be even faster and more efficient.

Preserving the Past

As we look at this boat from 1975, we can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. It’s a reminder of a bygone era, when things were simpler and the thrill of the open water was all that mattered. We’re fortunate that this boat has survived the test of time, thanks to the dedication of its owners.

In the future, boats like this one will be a rarity. With the shift towards composite materials, the days of wooden boats will be long gone. But that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate the craftsmanship and beauty of these vintage vessels. They serve as a reminder of where we’ve come from and how far we’ve come.
