Angling is Changing

by

Hewer we’re bringing in fishing legend Al Lindner, someone who’s been in the fishing industry for a LONG TIME, to talk about how angling has changed over the years.

AnglingBuzz TV is back with another exciting episode, bringing you the latest fishing reports and tips from various locations across North America. In this article, we’ll dive into the highlights of the episode, including reports from Lake Vermilion, the Red River, the Alexandria region of Minnesota, and Michigan. So, let’s get started and explore the world of angling!

Lake Vermilion: Walleye Fishing with Billy Rosner

Our first report takes us to Lake Vermilion, where guide Billy Rosner is out with Bob, catching some nice walleye. According to Billy, the key to success is fishing in areas with proficient sand grass and chara grass. These areas are known to hold a good number of perch and walleye. Billy recommends using a half a crawler on a basic Lindy rig to entice the fish. The overcast conditions on the beautiful morning make it even more favorable for catching walleye and smallmouth bass.

The Red River: Chasing Catfish with Brad Derek

In this segment, we head over to the Red River, where Brad Derek has been chasing some catfish. Brad mentions that the spawn has been over for two to three weeks now, and the water temperatures are a little warm at 82 degrees. However, the fish are still active and willing to bite. While the big fish have been a bit spotty, Brad advises anglers to keep making their moves and putting in their time. He recommends using suckers in the morning and frozen gold eyes in the afternoon as bait. As the area sees an increase in frog activity, frogs are expected to become the bait of choice on the Red River. Brad also shares some tips on the best locations to find catfish, suggesting that anglers focus on straightaways coming off bends and target the inside of mid-river holes. Fishing the faster water, especially during the morning and evening hours, can also yield good results.

Alexandria Region of Minnesota: Walleye Fishing with Josie Guerra

Next, we head over to the Alexandria region of Minnesota, where Josie Guerra shares some insights on walleye fishing. Josie mentions that anglers can still find a good number of walleye in the area, ranging from 18 to 20 inches in size, along with some larger fish. He recommends using a leech on a Lindy rig and rattling it on the weeds during low light time periods. However, when it’s brighter out, especially during mid-day, Josie suggests using a small number 5 crankbait to target walleye in the basin area. He advises anglers to look for bait balls consisting of young-of-the-year minnows, such as 1/2 inch long perch, and troll around those waypoints marked on the locator. Josie also mentions that drop-shotting with plastics in a wacky style has been effective for catching smallmouth bass in the area.

Michigan: Salmon and Lake Trout Bite with Captain Ben Wolf

Our last report takes us to Michigan, where Captain Ben Wolf has been keeping tabs on the salmon and lake trout bite. Ben mentions that the beginning of July was hot and humid, which slowed down the salmon fishing on the west side of the state. However, with a week of colder weather and a nice north wind blowing, the salmon are starting to come closer to shore, making it easier for anglers to target them. Ben also highlights the incredible vertical jigging bite for lake trout, with big fish and lots of numbers being caught. He recommends using one to three ounce jigs for these aggressive bites. If you’re looking for a captain or guide in Michigan, Ben suggests checking out Sport Fish Michigan for a great fishing experience.
