Northern Wisconsin Area Buzz Bite Report 4-30-21

It was Wisconsin’s fishing opener this Saturday and we had some incredibly warm weather for the opener and a stable weather in the forecast for the Northern Wisconsin area. They are talking about highs in the low to mid seventies.

I can’t remember the last time we had such a warm opening day. With this warmer weather the water temperatures are going to be rapidly increasing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they rose by five degrees in just a day or two.

The crappies will be in a pre-spawn mode and you’re going to want to focus on shallow bays and cuts with a soft bottom. That is where you are going to find your warmest water. I like to start in that five foot depth range and then work in or out from there depending on what you find.

Even half a degree makes a big difference so search for the the warmest water you can find.

Some green weeds should be starting to pop up as well so that will be something to keep an eye on.

In Northern Wisconsin area the Smallmouth bass will be in pre-spawn mode, but have started to make movements towards those spawning flats.  Try to find those rock / gravel shallow flats where they bass spawn and then back off a little bit. That is where you will find those fish.  Suspending a jerkbait is always a good early season approach.

Walleyes are going to be post spawn. They spawned a while ago so you will want to work the first break line for these fish. Jig and minnow, Rippin Raps, Crank baits or a jig and plastic will all work. The key depth has been around ten feet.

Good luck out on the water and enjoy this awesome weather.
