Guide Garett Svir of Slab Seeker Fishing gives his latest buzz bite report for Ottertail County, MN. February 24th, 2021.
The bluegill bite has been really strong over the past week in Ottertail County.
We have been fishing in about 10-12 feet of water for these bluegills and crappies. That has kind of been our key depth. We are also positioned just outside the weed line right on the mud to weed transition. These big bluegills have been cruising along the weed line so we set up the Clam hub house and have let the fish come to us. Fish have been coming through pretty consistently throughout the day.
Some of our best baits have been small orange tungsten jigs tipped with wax worms or spikes.
We have also been getting some pike and bass that have been chasing the bluegills. Tip ups rigged with sucker minnows or shiners has been producing a few of the fish that have come through.
The crappie bite has come during those low light periods early morning and late afternoon. It is just your classic primetime feeding windows. Those fish can be caught on small tungsten jigs or smaller spoons. Deadsticks with a minnow has also been producing a few fish. Position these baits close to the bottom for the best success.
The walleye bite has been slow in our area overall. One or two fish can be caught during those primetime hours in the evening but overall the bite has been really slow so we have been focusing on the panfish.
