Leech Lake Area Buzz Bite Report 2-24-2021

by

Guide Brian Brosdahl of Bros Guide Service gives his latest Buzz Bite Report for the Leech Lake Area and Northern Minnesota.  February 24, 2021.

Leech Lake has been really good the past few weeks even through the cold front. Anglers are sorting through perch and finding some really nice ones mixed in. This fish have been coming off the flats in the center of the lake. Almost all of the flats are holding perch.

Walleye continue to be caught and the bite should finish up strong during the last week of the season. Some key depths on leech have been 12-18 feet.

One bait that has really been working for me personally on Leech is Northland’s Eyeball spoon in the glow white color. I’ve just been tipping it with a minnow head and it has been producing well.

As far as the rest of the leech lake area goes, Cass Lake has been dead and really slow.

Anglers are finding a good amount of walleyes on lake Winnibigoshish, but most of those fish are small in that 10 to 12 inch range. The key depths on Winnie have been 18-20 feet. A few perch are being caught as well, but you’ll have to do a decent amount of sorting to find some nice ones.

In a few years there is going to be a really healthy population of eaters in Winnie so that is something to keep in mind.

Burbot are starting to be caught by anglers in the Bemidji area, Winnie, and on Leech. The depth really depends on the lake but generally most are being caught in 20-30 feet. Glow spoons tipped with minnow heads and then pounding bottom have been key.

Most of those fish are coming in the late afternoon hours or after dark.

Be safe and good luck during the last week of the season.
