Leech Lake Buzz Bite Report 1-29-2021

Leech Lake has been producing a lot of nice sized walleyes, jumbo perch and pike. Overall the fishing has been good, but there have been a few slower periods throughout the day. Walleyes can be caught during your primetime feeding windows during the morning hours and late into the afternoon, with a few being caught overnight.

The best perch bite has been early to mid morning for the larger fish, but smaller perch can be caught consistently throughout the day with a few jumbos mixed in.  Pike can be caught during the day with a few being iced after dark.

Depth ranges have varied but most fish are being caught between 7-13 feet of water out on the flats and along the main lake breaks.

Ice Conditions:

The ice conditions have been very good on Leech as most of the lake is drivable by vehicle and is wheelhouse accessible. As always use caution and call ahead to the local resorts to check on the road and lake conditions.

What’s Working Best:

As far as lure selection, go with your classic walleye baits for walleye and jumbo perch. Northland’s Buckshot spoons in red, UV Glo Pink or Green tipped with a minnow head or waxworm.

During the more aggressive feeding windows Rapala Jigging Raps have been producing too.

Tips-Ups and set lines with a sucker minnow or shiner have accounted for a good number of the pike being caught.
