Devils Lake (ND) Fishing Report – Pete Harsh

by

Overall, fishing during this period has been good to very good. At times October weather systems have been about the only limiting factor in our clients continued good catches. Some very hefty walleye and northern pike have been caught by our customers along with limits of eater walleyes in the 15 to 21 inch range.

Vertical jigging on structural elements and in current areas has become the dominant presentation for most anglers. Jigging raps, jigging spoons and the tried and true jig and minnow combination are producing well. Glow or UV colors have been working the best. Trolling, whether deep or shallow also continues to produce good catches for anglers who want to work a little harder for their catches. Flicker Shads, Salmos, and Rapalas have been the preferred weapons of choice.

The open water fishing season here is winding down. We at MGS have enjoyed a great year with our clients. In fact our best year ever. New friendships have been made and old friendships renewed. This great season would not have been possible without having the incredible fishing Devils Lake, North Dakota has to offer. While the ice fishing season here at Devils Lake is just around the corner, there is still time for anglers wishing to enjoy a few more days of fall fishing. A word of advice, dress warmly if you do.
