CENTRAL WISCONSIN FISHING REPORT - PHIL SCHWEIK

Central Wisconsin Fishing Report – Phil Schweik

It has been a tough week with all the rain we received but we were able to get out and put together a pattern that worked. Water conditions went from normal levels and clear to downright flood stage and muddy. In addition to the high muddy water as we moved to later in the week we were greeted with a high pressure system and a northeast wind.

Early in the week the walleyes were off to a very good start with nice catches of legal fish in the 16 to 20 inch range along with a pile of 13 to 15 inch fish. In addition to the walleyes we picked up some nice perch and a few crappies. As the week progressed the quality of the water went down and so did the fishing but we managed to figure out a pattern that helped us find some fish. We basically concentrated on slack water areas that during normal conditions would have been high and dry. By doing so we were able to locate and catch walleyes, a few crappies, and some really nice catfish, along with one very nice musky for Bob Rivers who was visiting from New Hampshire. This was Bobs first musky but we wish we would have caught the one that we lost shortly afterwards which was a true giant! We had action from several other muskies as the week progressed but nothing compared to the big one that got away!

Bear baiting continues to be good with our baits being actively hit on a regular basis. We keep changing up our bait presentations to keep them interested as it has in the past seems to be working. As the weeks start to dwindle down and we get closer to season we will start visiting our baits more frequently to get the bears on a more regular schedule.
