Central Wisconsin Fishing Report – Phil Schweik

by

Snow is on the ground and the temperatures have plummeted, but the fishing remains very good. Some area lakes and streams are freezing up but the Wisconsin River is still open and accessible. Now with a lot of guys getting prepared for the upcoming gun season we basically have the water to ourselves. We have been having great action on walleyes and muskies with some really big fish being caught.

We probably realistically only have a week or two of open water fishing left as guys are already looking at some of the area lakes where ice is starting to form. I would not be surprised to see a few, I’ll call them “brave souls” on the ice this weekend. With temperatures forecasted to be in the single digits and maybe even below zero we will definitely be making ice! I on the other hand have a few open water trips left this season then it will be off to deer camp. Ice fishing can wait.

Archers have been having a great season so far with quite a few really nice buck being taken all over the state. Central Wisconsin still remains a hub of activity when it comes to big bucks and this season has been no exception with several very nice bucks already being taken. Now with the 2017 gun deer season only a week away hunters are setting their sights on even bigger and better expectations.

Have a great week,
