Duluth Superior Area

Jarrod Houston is excited about the fishing bite in the Duluth Superior Area. According to the Duluth Superior People’s Press report, the bluegills are in the shallow waters, particularly in the reeds and vegetative areas. Panfish and crappies are also congregating in these areas. Houston recommends using tough tubes or chucking a crawler on your hook. The walleyes are also biting, and Houston suggests using tough tubes or stinger hooks for a successful catch. Lake Superior and the St. Louis River are the talk of the town, with good fishing opportunities for salmon and trout. No downriggers are necessary yet, and the same tactics are being used in the St. Louis River. Overall, the Duluth Superior area is a great fishery with plenty of opportunities to catch some fish.

Door County, Wisconsin

Doug Wagner provides an update on the smallmouth season in Door County. He mentions that they are currently in the midst of post-spawn, pre-spawn, and spawning periods, so smallmouth can be found throughout the area. Wagner’s favorite way to catch smallmouth is with jerkbaits, as the long pause in their retrieval is irresistible to the fish. Hair jigs are also effective, especially for catching larger fish. Other successful baits include net rigs, tubes, and grubs. Color selection is important, so be sure to switch it up. Door County is a great destination for smallmouth fishing, so make sure to plan a trip soon.

Alexandria Region, Minnesota

Joel Segura provides an update on the fishing in the Alexandria region of Minnesota. He mentions that the hot middle bite is still happening, but with the warm temperatures, water temperatures have risen above 70 degrees, causing a shift in the fishing patterns. Leeches and crawlers have been working well, and the depth of 12 to 15 feet seems to be productive. Green weeds are a good indicator of baitfish and walleye presence. Summer techniques such as jigging and rigging have been successful. Additionally, crappies have been active and can be caught using hair jigs, plastics, or minnows. Bass and sunfish are also present in the same areas. Overall, the fishing in the Alexandria region is diverse and offers plenty of opportunities for anglers.

Grand Traverse Bay, Michigan

Captain Ben Wolfe reports on the multi-species bite in Grand Traverse Bay. Bass fishing in the shallows has been excellent, with good numbers of fish being caught. In the 20 to 40-foot range, lake trout and Cisco action has been phenomenal. According to Captain Ben Wolfe, casting blade baits in this depth range has been a successful technique for catching Cisco and lake trout. The cold water temperatures have delayed the spring season, but the fishing action is still hot. Anglers are also excited about the salmon action in the area, as the fish migrate north for the summer. From St. Joe to Ludington, the salmon action has been phenomenal, providing lots of bites for anglers. If you’re looking for a captain or guide in Michigan, Sportfish Michigan is a great resource to check out.

Overall, the fishing reports from these locations are promising. Whether you’re targeting bluegills and walleyes in the Duluth Superior Area, smallmouth bass in Door County, or crappies and bass in the Alexandria region, there are plenty of opportunities to catch fish. And if you’re in Grand Traverse Bay, you can enjoy excellent bass fishing in the shallows and target lake trout and Cisco in deeper waters. The salmon action in Michigan is also worth checking out.
