Jeff Evans Fishing Guide

Like most of you reading this, I love to fish, plain and simple. Born in Hayward, WI, I’ve been blessed with many opportunities that have led me to a career on the water. As is the case with most kids, I was introduced to fishing by my father, a retired educator and coach who always made sure a trip to Canada or the Boundary Waters was scheduled at the end of every school year. My grandmother Doris was also instrumental in encouraging my passion and interest for all things fishing.
You see, Doris fished, and she loved to eat what she caught. Bluegills were of special interest to Doris, and some of my fondest and earliest memories on the water were spent with her below the Nelson Lake dam. We always cleaned what we caught after an obligatory stop at West’s Dairy for the best ice cream cone ever made.

In 2013, the decision was made to begin guiding full time and devote all energy to my career on the water. I became a credentialed U.S. Coast Guard Charter Captain and certified to guide on waters of the Great Lakes that I’ve fished for many years. This includes Chequamegon Bay and the St. Louis River-Superior Harbor in addition to the inland lakes I’ve been guiding on since 1992. The continued support from my family, friends, and faithful customers has made it possible for me to pursue my passion. You’ve all helped me in so many ways. There aren’t enough words to express how I appreciate having you in my corner. The relationships I’ve made on the water are priceless, and I don’t take any of you for granted.

If you’ve been following our latest reports, not a whole lot has changed over the past week in regard to fishing and ice conditions. A good shot of snow is hitting northern Wisconsin as I write this however, and some significant accumulations may pile up in some areas. That’s welcome news for anyone interested in [Read more…]

The days are getting noticeably longer, and it looks like we’re in for a bit of a warm up this coming weekend. You’re not going to get any complaints here as we’ve been locked into sub zero and single digit temperatures for quite awhile now. The mid winter grind has been real over the last [Read more…]

What was setting up as the first really good ice conditions we’ve had around the Apostle Islands in several years changed in a hurry last week when warm temps and strong northeast winds broke up much of the ice that had been made. Such is life on Lake Superior, and another good reminder of how [Read more…]

A classic mid January thaw landed on northern Wisconsin, and I didn’t hear one complaint about the weather around here. The Lake Superior snow belt received a pretty good dumping of white stuff along Hwy 2 during a mid week system, but much of it was lost as temperatures climbed into the high 40’s and [Read more…]

A much needed and deserved warm up that moved in last week resulted in a strong bite on the Hayward area lakes and Chequamegon Bay. Before temperatures dropped again over the weekend, Josh Teigen and Aron Kastern had some really productive days, and our hard water season continues to be a good one. Although we [Read more…]

Happy New Year everyone! Remember when the term “Polar Vortex” was included with every weather forecast back in 2013? Well, I’m pretty sure the weather we’ve had over the past couple of weeks qualifies… It’s been downright frigid in the mid-west and especially in northern Wisconsin. This crazy stretch of sub zero weather has been [Read more…]

Time to get back to work! After putting the boat away in November, spending some time in the deer woods, and attending a few of the annual ice fishing shows, our weekly fishing reports have returned. As they have in the past, Josh Teigen and Aron Kastern will be providing us with information regarding ice [Read more…]
