Jeff Evans Fishing Guide

Like most of you reading this, I love to fish, plain and simple. Born in Hayward, WI, I’ve been blessed with many opportunities that have led me to a career on the water. As is the case with most kids, I was introduced to fishing by my father, a retired educator and coach who always made sure a trip to Canada or the Boundary Waters was scheduled at the end of every school year. My grandmother Doris was also instrumental in encouraging my passion and interest for all things fishing.
You see, Doris fished, and she loved to eat what she caught. Bluegills were of special interest to Doris, and some of my fondest and earliest memories on the water were spent with her below the Nelson Lake dam. We always cleaned what we caught after an obligatory stop at West’s Dairy for the best ice cream cone ever made.

In 2013, the decision was made to begin guiding full time and devote all energy to my career on the water. I became a credentialed U.S. Coast Guard Charter Captain and certified to guide on waters of the Great Lakes that I’ve fished for many years. This includes Chequamegon Bay and the St. Louis River-Superior Harbor in addition to the inland lakes I’ve been guiding on since 1992. The continued support from my family, friends, and faithful customers has made it possible for me to pursue my passion. You’ve all helped me in so many ways. There aren’t enough words to express how I appreciate having you in my corner. The relationships I’ve made on the water are priceless, and I don’t take any of you for granted.

Hard to believe, but we’ve arrived at our final days of the open water season. I always spend the last week of October with friends and family. My brother in law Joe Weiss (Maple Grove, MN) along with his brother Chris (Eagan, MN) were first up. The weather forecast wasn’t exactly what you’d like to [Read more…]

Muskies are wonderful and evil all at the same time… Jack Schmidt (Addison, IL) was back in my boat fishing out of Northland Lodge, and we spent Monday on one of our favorite Hayward area lakes chasing muskies. Musky Jack is all about skis, and we’ve caught a bunch of good fish together over the [Read more…]

We were actually able to make it back on Chequamegon Bay last Saturday. It rained (of course) but winds were manageable, and I teamed up with Josh Teigen to fish with a fun crew. Matt Hendricks from Shawano, WI returned and added a few to his gang. His wife Emily and father Bob (Minong, WI) [Read more…]

It’s been awhile since we had a dedicated musky trip, but it was good to get the big sticks back out last Thursday. Jeremiah Andrews (Union, IA) and his partner Brian Groninga (Geneva, IA) were back to fish the Hayward area, and we spent the day chopping water. Brian served in the US Navy and [Read more…]

Lots of ground to cover in this report…. Good weather, bad weather, good fishing, lots of fish, and a couple of slow days are all included. It’s been one heck of a ride over the past week!   We were suffering from a bit of a Packer hangover after a brutal loss on Sunday night, [Read more…]

We spend time every March in the Florida Keys, and the devistation from Hurricane Irma has certainly been on our mind over the last week. Thankfully our friends down there all made it through, but now the real work begins… Please keep all of them in your thoughts, and do whatever you can to help [Read more…]
